A wise man once said: “The man who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client.” So is it advisable, or even possible, to be your own investment manager?

John Kay, the economist and FT columnist, is a firm believer in DIY investment. His book: The Long and the Short of It: a guide to finance and investment for normally intelligent people who aren’t in the industry won huge critical acclaim when it was first published eight years ago, and the updated second edition has just been released.

In conversation with the FT’s personal finance editor Claer Barrett, John will discuss the central theme of his book – low-cost investing – and attempt to demystify the process for novice investors, as well as giving his take on the current economic outlook and taking questions from readers.

The ticket price includes a glass of wine on arrival, and a signed copy of John’s book (Profile Books, RRP £9.99)
